piflow versions 2.0.0 through 2.0.1 contain a critical remote code execution vulnerability in the DeepAgents chat agent. The POST /chat and POST /chat/stream endpoints lack authentication, allowing unauthenticated users to trigger the exec_shell tool and execute arbitrary system commands.

Description

piflow 2.0.0 through 2.0.1 contains a remote code execution vulnerability in its DeepAgents chat agent, whose POST /chat and POST /chat/stream endpoints lack authentication. Attackers can instruct the agent to call the exec_shell tool, which runs arbitrary commands via subprocess.run without human approval or an allow-list, exposing environment secrets such as LLM API keys and database credentials.

Impact

Confidentiality, integrity, and availability are fully compromised for any exposed instance. Unauthenticated attackers can execute arbitrary code, leading to full system takeover. Sensitive environment variables, including LLM API keys and database credentials, are exposed to theft. This impacts any organization running piflow with the DeepAgents chat agent enabled on an untrusted network.

Remediation

Immediately upgrade piflow to a version later than 2.0.1 that includes the security patch. If an upgrade is not immediately possible, restrict network access to the POST /chat and POST /chat/stream endpoints to trusted internal networks only. Implement strict authentication and authorization controls on all agent endpoints. Rotate all environment secrets, including LLM API keys and database credentials, that were accessible to the affected service.
