CVE-2026-113495

A local unprivileged attacker can view Red Hat Subscription Management authentication tokens passed as command-line arguments to background

Overview

A local unprivileged attacker can view Red Hat Subscription Management authentication tokens passed as command-line arguments to background helper processes in cockpit-machines. This allows the attacker to read tokens and potentially access RHSM resources during the token's validity period. The flaw is present in Red Hat's cockpit-machines component.

Description

A flaw was found in cockpit-machines. Red Hat Subscription Management (RHSM) authentication tokens are passed as command-line arguments to background helper processes during image retrieval operations. A local, unprivileged attacker on a system permitting cross-user process inspection can view these arguments while the process is active. This flaw can lead to information disclosure, potentially allowing unauthorized access to RHSM resources within the token's validity period.

Impact

Confidentiality is compromised because tokens are exposed to local users. Integrity and availability are not directly affected. The vulnerability impacts systems running cockpit-machines with cross-user process inspection enabled.

Remediation

Apply the vendor patch that removes tokens from command-line arguments or upgrade to the latest cockpit-machines release. Restrict process visibility by disabling cross-user process inspection or enforcing SELinux/AppArmor policies. Use auditd to monitor and alert on unexpected process arguments containing token patterns.

Risk context

The CVSS v3 score is 5.0 (medium). With no EPSS data, the urgency is moderate; defenders should patch promptly but the risk is not critical.
