Overview
A critical OS command injection flaw exists in the WireGuard CLI Group Handler on WAVLINK WN536AX6-A routers, allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via the group_name argument. The vulnerability is publicly disclosed and can be exploited without authentication. It poses a severe risk to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of affected devices.
Description
A security vulnerability has been detected in WAVLINK WN536AX6-A V260507_2.0.0. This issue affects the function sub_41a1d8 of the file /bin/ioos of the component WireGuard CLI Group Handler. Such manipulation of the argument group_name leads to os command injection. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploit has been disclosed publicly and may be used. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure.
Impact
The flaw enables attackers to gain full control over the router, compromising confidentiality by accessing sensitive data, integrity by modifying configuration, and availability by potentially shutting down services. Network administrators and users of the affected devices are directly impacted.
Remediation
Apply the latest firmware patch (V260507_2.0.1 or newer) from WAVLINK. If a patch is unavailable, disable the WireGuard CLI service or restrict its access to trusted local networks, enforce strict firewall rules to block remote CLI traffic, and monitor system logs for suspicious command execution attempts.
Risk context
With a CVSS v3 score of 10.0 and critical severity, this vulnerability demands immediate attention. The absence of an EPSS score indicates no predictive risk data, but the public disclosure and remote nature warrant urgent remediation.
