Overview

A missing authentication flaw in WAVLINK WN536AX6-A’s VPN Client List Handler allows remote attackers to manipulate the opt argument and bypass authentication. The vulnerability is exploitable over the network and has been publicly disclosed. It can enable unauthorized VPN access or configuration changes.

Description

A vulnerability was detected in WAVLINK WN536AX6-A V260507_2.0.0. Impacted is the function sub_416d48/sub_41a7c0 of the file /bin/ioos of the component VPN Client List Handler. Performing a manipulation of the argument opt results in missing authentication. The attack can be initiated remotely. The exploit is now public and may be used. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure.

Impact

The flaw compromises confidentiality, integrity, and availability of VPN connections. Attackers can gain unauthorized access to the VPN, alter routing or configuration, and potentially pivot to internal resources. Defenders must treat it as a medium risk that could lead to data leakage or service disruption.

Remediation

Apply the vendor’s firmware update that patches the sub_416d48/sub_41a7c0 functions. If an update is unavailable, disable the VPN Client List Handler or block remote access to the /bin/ioos endpoint. Additionally, enforce strong authentication and monitor VPN logs for anomalous opt parameter usage.

Risk context

Severity medium (CVSS v3 5.3, v4 6.9) with no EPSS data. The public disclosure and remote exploitation capability warrant prompt action, but the risk is moderate until a patch is applied.
