CVE-2026-120317

The http4k library contains a missing integrity check that allows an attacker to modify the body of authenticated requests on non‑TLS channe

Overview

The http4k library contains a missing integrity check that allows an attacker to modify the body of authenticated requests on non‑TLS channels without invalidating the Authorization header. This can enable unauthorized state‑changing actions performed as the victim. The issue affects all versions prior to 6.60.0.0.

Description

http4k from 4.9.10.0 before 6.60.0.0 contains a missing integrity check vulnerability because DigestEncoder computes the auth-int digest without hashing the request entity body. On-path attackers on non-TLS channels can rewrite the body of authenticated requests while keeping the Authorization header valid, executing state-changing actions as the victim.

Impact

Confidentiality: attackers can tamper with request bodies while keeping the Authorization header valid. Integrity: state changes can be performed without detection. Availability: not directly impacted. Defenders include application owners, network administrators, and security teams.

Remediation

Upgrade http4k to version 6.60.0.0 or later. If an upgrade is not immediately possible, enforce TLS for all HTTP traffic to prevent on‑path modifications. Monitor logs for anomalous state changes and apply application‑level input validation as an additional safeguard.

Risk context

High severity with a CVSS v4 score of 8.2 indicates a significant risk. No EPSS data is available. Immediate attention and remediation are recommended.
