Overview

IBM API Connect versions 10.0.8.0-12.1.1.2 are vulnerable to remote code execution via insufficient validation of uploaded content. An authenticated attacker can run arbitrary code on the server. This flaw can compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the API gateway.

Description

IBM API Connect 10.0.8.0 through 10.0.8.12 and 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 could allow a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code due to insufficient validation of uploaded content. Content uploaded to the product is not sufficiently checked before it is processed, which could allow code to run on the server.

Impact

The vulnerability allows an authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code, potentially giving them full control over the API Connect server. This can lead to data exfiltration, tampering with API traffic, and service disruption. The confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the API infrastructure are at risk. Defenders should treat this as a high-priority issue.

Remediation

Apply the latest IBM API Connect patch that addresses CVE-2026-17399. If patching is delayed, enforce strict file-type validation on upload endpoints, restrict upload permissions to trusted users, and monitor for anomalous process creation. Additionally, isolate the API Connect environment and apply least-privilege access controls.

Risk context

The CVSS score of 9.9 and critical severity indicate a high risk. Without a patch, attackers could exploit this flaw to compromise the entire API gateway. Defenders should act promptly to mitigate the risk.
