Overview
IBM API Connect versions 10.0.8.0-10.0.8.12 and 12.1.0.0-12.1.1.2 are vulnerable to OS command injection via remote authenticated users. The flaw allows attackers to run arbitrary commands on the host, potentially leading to full system compromise.
Description
IBM API Connect 10.0.8.0 through 10.0.8.12 and 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 could allow a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary commands due to OS command injection. User-supplied input is not properly neutralized before it is passed to the operating system, which could allow commands to run on the underlying host.
Impact
Confidentiality: attacker can read sensitive data. Integrity: attacker can modify or delete data. Availability: attacker can disrupt services. The impact is on organizations running vulnerable IBM API Connect instances, potentially exposing critical infrastructure.
Remediation
Apply the latest IBM security patch for API Connect 10.0.8.12 or 12.1.1.2. If patching is delayed, restrict API Connect to trusted networks, enforce least privilege for authenticated users, monitor for suspicious command execution, and sanitize user input.
Risk context
Severity is critical with CVSS 9.9, indicating a high risk of exploitation. Immediate attention is required to prevent potential system compromise.
