Overview

The Snap Finance WordPress plugin up to version 3.11.0 fails to verify the payment provider’s response before marking a WooCommerce order as paid. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to mark arbitrary orders as paid without completing payment, potentially leading to revenue loss and inventory mismanagement. The issue is a medium‑severity vulnerability that can affect any site using the affected plugin.

Description

The Snap Finance WordPress plugin through 3.11.0 does not verify that the payment provider's response actually confirms a completed, approved transaction before marking a WooCommerce order as paid, allowing unauthenticated attackers to mark arbitrary orders as paid without completing payment.

Impact

Confidentiality: attackers may gain insight into order details. Integrity: unauthorized orders can be marked as paid, corrupting order records. Availability: not directly impacted. Defenders include site owners, e-commerce managers, and payment processors who must ensure accurate payment confirmation.

Remediation

1. Update the Snap Finance plugin to the latest version (≥3.11.1). 2. Verify the payment provider’s response code and status before changing the order status to paid. 3. If an update is not possible, disable automatic status changes and manually confirm payments. 4. Monitor order logs for unexpected status changes and audit payment processing workflows.

Risk context

The vulnerability has a medium CVSS v3 score of 5.3 and an EPSS of 0.00136, indicating a low probability of exploitation but still requiring timely patching to mitigate potential financial impact.
