Overview
IBM API Connect versions 10.0.8.0‑10.0.8.12 and 12.1.0.0‑12.1.1.2 are vulnerable to a cross‑site scripting flaw that allows a remote authenticated attacker to inject and execute arbitrary scripts. The flaw arises from insufficient validation of URL fields, enabling malicious content to run in another user's browser session. This can lead to session hijacking, data theft, or defacement.
Description
IBM API Connect 10.0.8.0 through 10.0.8.12 and 12.1.0.0 through 12.1.1.2 could allow a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary scripts due to cross-site scripting. Certain URL fields are not sufficiently validated, so malicious script content could run in another user's browser session.
Impact
Confidentiality: attacker can access sensitive data in victim's session. Integrity: attacker can modify or inject content. Availability: not directly impacted. Defenders: administrators and users of IBM API Connect are at risk.
Remediation
Apply the latest IBM API Connect patch that validates URL fields and sanitizes input. If patch not available, restrict authenticated access to the affected endpoints or disable URL field usage. Monitor for XSS indicators and enforce content security policies.
Risk context
Medium severity with CVSS 5.4. No EPSS data available. The vulnerability is exploitable by authenticated users, so organizations using the affected IBM API Connect versions should prioritize patching to mitigate potential XSS attacks.
