Oracle Outside In Technology PDF Parsing Integer Overflow Enables Remote Code Execution (CVE-2026-60392)
Oracle Outside In Technology is vulnerable to an integer overflow in PDF parsing that allows remote attackers to execute code when a user opens a crafted PDF or visits a malicious page. The flaw, CVE-2026-60392, carries a CVSS score of 7.8. Oracle has released a patch; administrators should update immediately and verify the fix.
What happened
Oracle Outside In Technology has a flaw in its PDF parsing routine that can trigger an integer overflow before buffer allocation, enabling arbitrary code execution in the context of the current process when a user opens a crafted PDF or visits a malicious page.
Impact
The vulnerability (CVE-2026-60392) is exploitable only with user interaction, but once triggered it grants full control over the affected system. The CVSS score is 7.8 (AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H). All installations of Outside In Technology that have not applied the vendor patch are at risk.
Mitigation
Oracle has issued a security update that validates PDF input and removes the overflow path. Administrators should download and apply the patch from the Oracle security alert (https://www.oracle.com/security-alerts/cspuaug2026.html) and verify that the affected component is at the patched version. After patching, monitor logs for any anomalous PDF processing activity.
Recommended Actions
- Check current Outside In Technology version and compare with the patched release.
- Apply the update as soon as possible.
- Disable automatic PDF opening in browsers or email clients until the patch is applied.
- Conduct a quick audit of user-initiated PDF handling to ensure no legacy code paths remain.
- Keep the system updated and monitor Oracle advisories for related issues.
