Vulnerabilities
Azure Portal XSS Spoofing Vulnerability (CVE-2026-83946) – Immediate Patch Required
A cross‑site scripting flaw in Azure Portal allows attackers to spoof the portal interface, potentially tricking users into submitting credentials or executing malicious actions. The vulnerability is exploitable without authentication and can be leveraged to perform phishing or credential theft. Defenders should apply the latest Azure updates and monitor for anomalous portal activity.
What Happened
Microsoft identified an XSS flaw in the Azure Portal that fails to properly neutralize user‑supplied input during page rendering. The flaw can be triggered by an unauthenticated attacker and results in arbitrary script execution within the portal context.
Impact
Attackers can inject scripts that mimic the Azure Portal UI, enabling phishing of credentials or execution of malicious actions on behalf of legitimate users. Because the vulnerability is unauthenticated, it can be abused from any network that can reach the portal.
Mitigation & Response
- Apply the latest Azure Portal update – the patch is included in the current release notes.
- Verify that your portal instances are running the patched version (check the portal version number in the footer).
- Enable Azure AD Conditional Access to restrict portal access to trusted networks and enforce MFA.
- Monitor portal logs for unexpected script execution or abnormal navigation patterns.
- Educate users about spoofed portal interfaces and verify the URL before entering credentials.
