Chromium CVE-2026-95284: Buffer Overflow in ANGLE Affects Microsoft Edge
A buffer overflow in Chromium’s ANGLE component (CVE-2026-95284) can lead to memory corruption. Microsoft Edge (Chromium‑based) inherits the flaw and is vulnerable until patched. Defenders should update Edge to the latest release and monitor for exploitation activity.
What happened
A buffer overflow was discovered in the ANGLE graphics abstraction layer of Chromium, identified as CVE-2026-95284. The flaw allows an attacker to corrupt memory when processing maliciously crafted web content.
Impact
Microsoft Edge (Chromium‑based) inherits the vulnerable ANGLE code. An exploit could enable arbitrary code execution in the context of the browser process, potentially compromising the host system.
Defender actions
Update Microsoft Edge to the latest version that includes the ANGLE patch. Verify that the Edge version is at least the one released after the CVE fix. Monitor for anomalous network activity from the browser and consider disabling ANGLE‑dependent features if available.
